What is the legal relationship between an Auto Broker and Me?
Sharp Cars is the marketing arm for Sharp Cars of Fresno, a licensed California
Automobile Broker and Dealer. Legally, hat means we represent YOU,
our client, in the acquisition of a vehicle from a franchised new vehicle dealer.
In actuality, our clients rarely even visit the dealership from which we get
their new vehicle. The entire transaction occurs as a result of
your relationship with us, your Broker.
2.)
I know Sharp Cars is in California…Can a Non-California
resident get a car from you?
Generally, no. We are licensed to do business in California, to
California clients. There are special situations, so always feel
free to ask us!
3.)
Can you literally get me ANY car or truck I want?
Usually, we can, as long as it is a new vehicle. But, of course,
it goes without saying that all vehicles are subject to availability
from a co-operating franchised new car dealer. We work with lots
of such dealerships around the state, so we can almost always
get you the new car or truck you want. Extremely rare vehicles
or vehicles ordered with non-conforming equipment can sometimes
be a problem, whether you use us OR a car dealer, but we are far
more likely to find what you want than just a single dealer would
be.
4.)
How much does Sharp Cars charge me to get a new vehicle?
If you are purchasing the vehicle, our Broker Fee to you is usually
$260. If you are leasing a vehicle or purchasing a used vehicle,
we do not charge a separate fee at all. Call or email us for an
exact quote on any vehicle.
5.) What happens with the warranty
on a “brokered” vehicle?
Since we get your new vehicle through a franchised dealer, there
is no difference whether there was a broker in the transaction
or not. The warranty on almost any manufactured product, be it
a car, a toaster oven, or whatever, requires the manufacturer
to pay ANY authorized service outlet of that product, for any
required warranty repair. So, take your car to the nearest franchised
dealer of your brand, and expect to be treated like royalty. After
all, your warranty repair bill will be paid by the manufacturer,
and the people doing the work for you are generally commissioned
employees! You’re a “dollar sign” waiting in
the service drive!! They’re glad to see you! In the rare
instance where you can’t get a problem solved, we can often
help, since we buy thousands of cars for every one that you buy.
We can often make a call or two, and your problem just “goes
away”!
6.)
Can I get an extended service contract from you?
YES, and often for much less than the dealer would have charged
you.
7.)
How long does it take Sharp Cars to find and get me the vehicle
I order?
Generally, we need a day or two to locate the one you want, and
another day or so to get it from where we find it to you. Some
orders take longer, because of short supply or delays from suppliers.
Also, (we apologize!!!) sometimes, it takes us a day or two longer
than we would like to get back to a new client. We’re incredibly
busy most of the time, and we can only handle so many orders at
a given moment. We do all in our power to stay in touch with each
client, and we give special consideration to clients who really
need a vehicle in a hurry.
8.)
Do I need to come into your office to order a vehicle?
Most dealers try their best to force you to get you in where they can
cajole you into buying RIGHT NOW at a price which, had you had time to
think about it, you would never have agreed to. At Sharp Cars, we do
almost everything by telephone (and sometimes email). We don't have a
car lot. We don't want you to make any decision till it is
completely apparent that it is the best one you can make. Most of our
vehicles are actually delivered directly to your office or home on one of
our trucks by one of our drivers. So, whether or not we meet will be your
decision. Whether you have the best new car buying experience or not is
OUR responsibility!
9.)
Do you accept counter offers or “bargain” the price?
No. It isn’t usually even necessary. We do occasionally
go back to our vehicle sources to try to improve on the price
they are charging, but we normally have used all possible “due
diligence” till we are sure the first price we get for you
is the lowest available, in a given day’s spot market. If
we’re not sure it’s the best price, we’ll tell
you. We rarely lose a sale due to pricing. By the time you’re
hearing the price, we have already done the “bargaining”
for you. We are, however, very responsive to any questions or
doubts you might have about any part of the transaction.
10.)
Can I change my mind after I buy a car, and return it to you?
No, but that’s not because we’re a broker. It’s
the law in California law that there is no “cooling off”
period on any automotive purchase involving any dealer. We hear
that this law got passed under pressure from the Board of Equalization
and DMV because they didn’t want to give you back your tax
and license money.
If you’re not sure you
want a particular car or deal, don’t sign anything till
you KNOW you’re doing the right thing. However, if we deliver
a vehicle to you, which isn’t equipped as we represent,
or one that is damaged, we certainly don’t expect you to
accept it. In fact, we generally will already have refused it
from the dealer, and notified you that we had to change cars,
before you ever saw it! Remember, we live by referral. Delivering
damaged or incorrectly equipped vehicles is not in our OR your
best interest. The dealers have to get rid of those cars to somebody,
but it won’t normally be to a client of Sharp Cars!!
